I've heard more and more artist say that The Beatles were thier main influence...if it hadn't been for the Beatles some say they would never have gotten into music. They were perfect for the times....they all had successful solo careers (Except, possibly Ringo)....they knew when to stop (As a group)....too bad the Stones can't say the same ;)

The Beatles infulenced popular music........the Stones influenced rock and roll. The Beatles got into exploring and experimenting while the Stones stayed true to their roots, and all the jokes about them rockin' in their rockin' chairs ain't gonna change that. I love and respect them both and think that the Beatles, indivdually, were, and always will be genuises. The Stones are the greatest Rock and Roll band ever. It's kind of apples and oranges IMHO, so I guess I can have it both ways.

The Stones contibuted to rock just like many bands but the Beatles influenced SO many artists then and now. In fact the Beatles themselves were cool enough to say that they were influenced by some other artists. Also, if you thought the Stones were better, chew on this, The Beatles Anthology CD's were very popular AND the Beatles "1" LP went to number 1 on the charts in 2001 some 31 years after the band broke up. Meanwhile the Stones released a greatest hits CD that didn't even make it to the top. The Stones, they were alright but man, enough is enough. Retire already!

I chose The Beatles, because of two reasons:
1.-I like them more than Rolling Stones

maybe because I actually was a teenager during the era of the beatles & the stones & I will be the first to admit I don't have the musical knowledge some have.....but I have never comprehended this god-like status they have attained (especially the beatles)....granted they influenced bands that came after them, just as they were influenced by earlier artists (whether true or not this is true, i have read that the distinctive "early beatle" sound was the results of them trying to copy the black rock sound)....if an artist is any good at all, said artist will influence others....i stand by my opinion, all alone in beatle-stones-blasphemy-hell..... ;)

I would say that since the Beatles haven't recorded in, what, almost 40 years, but
are still spoken of as someone to be gaged against, that screams out influence.
Especially in a art/business that sees next best things fade out in 6 months.
There is a difference between what you like, and what lasts, and perpetuates.

Yeah, the Stones even released 40 licks and it only made it to #2 while The Beatles released "1" in 2000 which had thier 27 #1 hits and it topped the charts worldwide. Not bad for a group that broke up in 1970 ;)

The Beatles because the Stones are not quite as distinctive with their songwriting or vocals. The Beatles made many styles their own, but yet they never quite sounded the same every time they put a new record out.
