I haven't voted for any of them yet; I can't make up my mind! That's because I like a lot of them, like Bugs, Roadrunner, etc.

My faves are a pair,  Marc Anthony (bulldog) and Pussyfoot (the little kitten that sleeps on his back).  Actually, I like just about all of the Looney Toons.

In college I took a class on the History of Animation.  I loved the section on Warner Bros.

Although I've already voted for Bugs Bunny as my favorite Looney Tunes character, I feel compelled to add Ralph Wolf (Wile E. Coyote with a red nose) and Sam Sheepdog as an honorable mention. Never have I seen a cartoon that so perfectly pokes fun at the relationships between co-workers. It's funny how you can get along great with someone outside of work but as soon as you clock in you want to KILL each other.http://store1.yimg.com/I/rnrdist_1790_81396975

Thanks for the suggestion...but I'm torn between Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Roadrunner, Elmer Fudd, Tweety, Sylvester, Taz, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, and Marvin...all of whom I can do imitations of. :D

The "Termite Shack" was the brunt of jokes around the WB studio lot at the time they were making them, but they produced some academy shows so the laughter quickly died down!
The late 40s to end of 60s were the gems..the 70s productions were flat & dull looking & had poor story lines.

When I was a kid, I had one of those Mattel talking Bugs Bunny dolls from the 70s.  When you pulled the string on his back, he'd say things like "Hee Hee Hee, What's Up Doc?" and "Got Any Carrots?".  Over the years, he became well worn out, and now when you pull the cord, his voice sounds like the devil ;D

It's sort of scary :o

"Hey, uh, take me with you!"

Bugs Bunny's voice (and the voices from all the other pull-string talking toys) work on the same mechanism as in the See-and-Say.

If the talking toy speaks slower than normal, it's likely that the weights on the governor (see the above link) have become stuck in the "outward" position.  It's also possible that the problem's even simpler -- years of sweat and finger-goop on the cord have crudded up parts of the mechanism through which the string is drawn, adding drag to the string, and slowing down the rate at which the cylinder can play back the voice.  (Or the lubricant around the cylinder has dried up, etc. etc.)

Long story short, if you've got someone in the house with some sewing skills (to redo the stitching that keeps the plastic bits nicely enclosed), you can probably use that howstuffworks.com article to figure out how bring Bugs back to life with a little surgery. Fixing the voice box could probably be as simple as 15-20 minutes to figure out how to safely (there's nothing dangerous inside him -- I'm talking about Bugs' safety here!) disassemble him, 5 minutes playing with the mechanism to figure out how it works and which parts are stuck, and another 5 minutes cleaning out the sticky bits with a toothpick and re-lubricating with lithium grease.  And another 15-20 minutes stitching him back up again.

The hardest part is probably going to be figuring out how to take Bugs apart while being absolutely sure that even if you don't fix the voice box (maybe the plastic cylinder just plain wore out from years of love during childhood!), you can at least put him back together again and make him look like he used to.  Hence, the admonition to make sure you've got someone nearby who has sewing skills.

I grew up with toys like this, and if you'd asked me yesterday to build a talking toy that played a random snippet of voice but required no batteries and worked even when wet, I'd have remembered the pull-string toys from my youth... and would have hit a brick wall.  My design would likely have used the energy of the pull-string to power a small generator which would power a small microcontroller, which would play back the voice sample.  It might have worked, but it wouldn't have been machine-washable, and it would have been impossible with 70s technology.  (Or even 80s; the old voice synthesizer chips were far too large and power-hungry to be powered off a drawstring).  Any high school kid could build the electronic version of the toy over a weekend -- the basics of microcontroller development are all over the 'net, the development tools are free, and the parts would cost about $25.  I don't know anyone who could build the mechanical version.  I don't even know anyone who could design the mechanical version -- witness my spectacular design fail at the start of this paragraph.

These old toys fascinate me; Bugs Bunny is an Edison Cylinder Gramophone that fits in the palm of your hand, needs no batteries, and works even when accidentally dropped in the bathtub.  How cool is that?

your welcome Greenjello.I thought you might like that.
My Buddy got me "Robot Rabbit" some time ago & that was My favorite next to "Hill Billy Hare"
"Come right out & form a square!"
The cartoon with Joe the construction worker that tries to relocate Bugs is great as well!
Loved the part where bugs sends him falling down through a Burch of boards & he leaves impression silhouettes of praying as he plummets to earth!
You would think with todays computer driven animations the cartoon of this kind of quality storeys would be a snap but, I think its lack of imagination & Patience is missing with todays stuff!
All the WB cartoons of the start to the late 60s were hand painted cell by cell !
Only Mission Hill did that!....Too expensive to make now a days
