The ones that appeal to me here...
1961 - Del Shannon - Runaway
Great song and totally original performance...fantastic...
1964 - Can't Buy Me Love - Beatles
Can't really ignore this...this was just after that historic US chart where every song in the top 5 was a Beatles song...!!
1966 - (You're My) Soul And Inspiration - The Righteous Brothers
Which is sometimes unfairly dismissed as a pale imitation of 'Lovin' Feelin'' - I still think otherwise...fine song...
1969 - Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In - The Fifth Dimension
Brilliant...can't be described as anything less - fantastic group...

1960 - Stuck On You - Elvis Presley 3- S'alright, but this guy had sooo many #1s....
1961 - Runaway - Del Shannon 5- Great song. This guy never really came close again, what with songs like "Hats Off to Larry" and such
1962 - Good Luck Charm - Elvis Presley 4- Cute little song.
1963 - I Will Follow Him - Little Peggy March 3- I wonder if there was a Big Peggy March, too?
1964 - Can't Buy Me Love - The Beatles 5- No one comes close to Lennon/McCartney's ability to concoct pop confection like this.
1965 - Game Of Love - Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders 3- If you check AMG you'll see that this one is on about 50 compilation cds. Also recorded by Ike and Tina Turner on their hit album, "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter"
1966 - (You're My) Soul And Inspiration - The Righteous Brothers 4
1967 - Somethin' Stupid - Nancy Sinatra & Frank Sinatra 3- Something a little bit creepy about a father and daughter singing a love song together.
1968 - Honey - Bobby Goldsboro 1- YUCK. The polyester king of whine strikes!
1969 - Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In - 5th Dimension 4

I'll just sweep up the rest...
Both Elvis' songs were typical of his early sixties output...both okay, but lacking a certain 'something'...
Little Peggy March's effort never charted here, yet Petula Clark sung it in German and had a hit with it! An enjoyable one from the 'innocent age'...
Wayne & The Mindbenders 'Game Of Love' was pretty good...heard it probably too many times, though...
Frank & Nancy didn't actually record this as a duet - they performed their parts separately which were then magically dubbed together...s'okay, but I've heard it once too often...
As for 'Honey'...yeuch!!

After seeing all the negative comments about "Honey", I'm beginning to think that it may not be the same tune I'm thinking of. Perhaps I should have another listen... :-\

As you read those lists, reflect back to the R & B and Doo Wop songs of the 50s and you'll lament the decline of teen music as the 60s took over. >:(

I collect music of the 60's & always make sure to know when the songs were from & I quite disagree. The 60's was still full of teen music, R&B, and doo-wop!
