Fabs for me (the early to mid stuff, by the main...) - although the remainder of the above (and more) had their moments, there's no escaping the sheer undiluted influence of these guys...something that we will, in all honesty, never see the like of again...
Oh, and The Yardbirds & The Zombies were pretty triff too...

Hard to choose between The Beatles and The Kinks. It's like asking whether you prefer Elvis or Roy Orbison. Elvis and The Beatles would always win as they are just so hugely influential and have such an amazing body of work. In the end I voted for The Kinks simply because I think they are unfairly overshadowed by The Beatles and are a great band in their own right.

Excellent ! I remember that !
The only mistake they slipped in was suggesting one of the Aussie Bruce's said "blimey". A particularly English expression which never took off here.
I loved the way they slipped all the Cricketers in! ;D

Huw, it's hard not to disagree. The Kinks had some great stuff, most of which is still unknown to the majority, unfortunately.

Kinks. Voted for 'em mainly to keep things interesting and because, to my ears, they were the first rock band that really crunched, if you know what I mean.

I guess Floyd's more popular music came later but I def prefer them to the Beatles. Esp Dark Side of the Moon.

The Kinks had a much better style than any of the others......their guitar riffs were unique and exciting.

The Who, with The Kinks and The Rolling Stones joint second. Next would be The Hollies then The Beatles. The others don't get a look-in. But as already mentioned. Manfred Mann would certainly be in my list.
