Subject: Family vacations in the 60's and 70's

Does anyone have any of the same memories as I do of family vacations? Ours went something like this. Load up the station wagon. Go to some place like the Smokey Mts., Rock City, Santa Claus Land in Indiana, Cedar Point (one a year of course). Then drive until you see a vacancy sign at one of those mom & pop roadside Motels. You didn't have to make reservations months in advance. And of course they had to have a pool, or it was on down the road till you found one. And we always had those car game's to play. Oh, to go back to those simpler times. :(

My family went to the same place year after year...THE POCONOS.  (Actually my parents did something different TWICE, once we went to Washington DC and the other time we went to Lake George.)

We always stayed at the same place, Hillside Lodge.  I remember dinner was always something we looked forward to, we actually got dressed up!  My sister and I would order Shirley Temple's and act like we were drinking a cocktail!  LOL!!  After dinner the family would go into the lounge where they had a horse racing game, I can't remember how it was played, but I remember large wooden cut-outs of horse heads that would be moved along a track.

Of course there was a big in-the-ground pool and tennis courts.  I remember we would always go to the same little shop, Mrs. Santa's Doll House.  My sister and I would also come home with a new piece of Indian jewelry and a pair of moccasins.

I need to do a search to see if Hillside Lodge is still around, if it is I doubt it anything like I remember it!
