Subject: 40 Years Ago Today

Written By: CatwomanofV on 11/22/03 at 09:14 a.m.

Today marks the 40th anniversery of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. For those of you who remember, where were you when it happened?

I was just a little thing and don't remember it but I was told that I was in front of the t.v. when it happened. (Uh oh, I guess that dates me.  ;))

I was in the car with my parents , en route to our new home in Illinois. I remember my mother crying, and I cried too, because I was afraid. We stopped at a Howard Johnson for lunch, and everyone in there was crying, and in shock. A very sad day indeed.

I wasn't born yet, but my mother was in gym class when it happened.  My father had been drafted two days before so he was at boot camp.

My parents hadn't even met when the assasination happened. My Dad was in his OAC year (formerly an extra year in high school for Ontario) and my Mom was in grade 11. I'm sure they still remember what they were doing on that day, but I haven't asked (kind of ignorant of me, I know).

It's possible, but I doubt it...if he were he would be in his 80's.

When President Kennedy was assassinated, I was in 10th grade history class taking a test. There was an announcement over the public address system that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas, TX and we were to bow our heads and pray for our leader. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Many students and teachers wept. Teachers led us in prayer. The normal noisy dismissal was solumn and tear filled. The entire weekend there was nothing on TV except news about the assassination and Oswald, Jack Ruby and finally, the funeral with the cassons and tributaries from all over the world. My father made us sit and watch it all...he told us this is history in the making and we should never forget...How could we?  When I think back on it, I still feel the sadness that shrouded our entire country.

I recall driving with my parents, and out the window, there were people sitting along the street with transistor radios up to their ears and their faces were serious.
