Subject: 1960's fad toy? Fake fur with eyes?
Hi!
I just found this board tonight and am so happy to have found it :)
I'm hoping someone can help me with this - I'm not sure of the year but "think" it was in the 1960's sometime (I could be wrong though on this) but does anyone remember a toy that was basically a strip of fake fur with eyes and you pet it?
Boy does it sound funny when I write it down but I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about anyways *Smile*
If you happen to remember it - could you tell me exactly 'what' it was called? I'd love to find a picture of one (even a digital pic would be perfect!) so I could put it in a scrapbook that I'm doing for myself of my childhood.
Thanks for any 'n all help!
Love,
Jennelle

I remember them and had one. I remember when you pet it, one side of it would go up. I'm not too sure what it was called but I do remember it. I may even still have mine in a box somewhere in the basement-or not.

Hi Cat :)
Thanks so much for answering! I'm glad someone else remembers them too (for awhile I was starting to think that I had imagined them or something *Grin*).
I wish I knew what they were called -- I tried everything to try and find them online somewhere 'n it's strange 'cuz usually you can find ANYthing online if you look hard enough, ya know? *LOL*
If you would have yours yet - would you take a pic of it for me one of these days and send it if you have a digital? :)
Thanks so much again for writing!! (HUGS)

Jennelle

I think you're thinking about "Squirmles".
A strip of fur with eyes and a piece of fishing line, so that you could make it look "alive" by pulling the string.
I hope this link works!!

Hi :)
Aaah - nope, that's not what I was talking about (I'm sorry!) Thanks so much for trying though.
This was actually just a piece of fur and it was flat and maybe - oh, I don't know, about 5-6 inches across and about 12 inches long (?) and all it had was 2 eyes on it and if I remember right, that was all - it didn't have any other facial features, just the eyes is all. Mine was pink, I do remember that.
Thank you again for trying ((HUGS))

I just came back from Mall of America. Those furry things were actually in one of the toy stores. They have made a comeback and they look as they did back in our day. I wish I paid more attention to what they call them now. I know its a different name from when they first came out.

Hiya Startrek! I'll have to keep an eye out to see if I see any of them in stores here. Of course, I'm in such a remote area that we're the last to get anything new that comes out *lol* Well - if you should get back to the Mall of America and see them again -- can ya check out the name 'n let me know? Thanks!
