Do you know that it is possible to view all these old shows that we talk about. At the National Archives outside of Washington D.C. (I think it is in Silver Springs, MD) they have almost everything that was ever shown on t.v. Some of the early stuff was lost-like the Cinderella special with Julie Andrews. But most of it is there. You can go and view whatever you like. I heard a long time ago that one of the most popular requests was when the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Just a little FYI for ya.

Think yourselves lucky! Due to the wonderful economic drives that were prevalent among UK TV companies, a considerable amount of footage (whether pre-recorded or live) was wiped or lost prior to 1970...
Reason being that video tape was an expensive commodity, so they'd just use it over and over again...
Among the gems lost forever:
The edition of "Juke Box Jury" when the Beatles took it over
The first TV appearance of Led Zeppelin
The only TOTP appearance of Pink Floyd ("See Emily Play")
...the list goes on and on, sadly...
I would've thought that the Beatles' Ed Sullivan appearance is owned outright by Apple - who are notoriously difficult in allowing anything involving the Fabs to be shown to a grateful public...a bit cynical, but I could be wrong...
Regards...
