what you liked about them!

I loved the raw sound of the Kinks, remember, All of the Night, You Really Got Me, and Tired of Waiting for You.  they achieved the distorted guitar sound by kicking in an amplifier!

I liked 'Dion' - I think they were predominantly a 50s band with hits like 'Teenager in love' and 'Runaround Sue'. They did the original version of 'The Wanderer' (covered later by Status Quo).

Does anybody remember a British band called Scaffold? They created hits like 'Thank you very much' (that later became an advert for Roses) and 'Lilly the Pink'.

I heard of the Scaffold, was Paul McCartney's brother, Mike McGear in it?  or did the Scaffold cover (or originate) "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away?"  Nope, think that was the Silkie!

Dion (with or without the Belmonts) were an American group Bobby, but wonderful all the same - one of the most successful white doo-wop groups of all time...

Scaffold were indeed British - from Liverpool. Mike McGear (Mike McCartney - Paul's bro - as bj rightly says, Roger McGough (self-styled Scouse poet laureate) and John Gorman (the balding one who later appeared in - guess what Bobby? - TISWAS!! (See separate thread everyone!)

"Lily The Pink" was their big one (Christmas 1968 #1), which was also recorded by suave French singer Richard Anthony in his native tounge, entitled "Le Sirop Typhon" - which I'd love to hear a version of...

My fave? The Move...comprising of Carl Wayne (who now sings with The Hollies, Trevor Burton, Ace Kefford, Bev Bevan (later drummer with ELO) and the songwriter genius of Roy Wood (later of Wizzard) - Jeff Lynne (also ELO) joined the ranks later. They differed from many sixties bands in their mastery of the three-minute pop song and also their ability to change their image rapidly. They were also top musicians too!

It's neat to come full circle, i.e. TISWAS, maybe it's our lucky day!!

Cor Blimey! Paul UK!

You know your stuff!  :D

It's bizzare how some things link (i.e TISWAS). I feel sorry for the people outside of Britain. They won't know what the heck we're talking about.

'The Move' with Roy Wood. They sang 'Blackberry Way' I think in the 60s. Me and my dad loved him in Wizzard - The man is Glam rock!

'Angel Fingers' and 'See my baby jive' are great catchy songs but the song that will stay with me forever is 'I wish it could be Christmas everyday.' What a song! That song, as well as Slade's 'So here it is, merry Christmas!' Epitomises a British Christmas.

Lovely!  ;D
