The Animals keyboardist dead at 62

LONDON (AP) -- Rock musician Dave Rowberry, keyboard player for the top 1960s band The Animals, was found dead Friday in his London apartment, a fellow band member said.

Rowberry was 62.

Drummer John Steel said Rowberry, who had heart problems, was found dead by Animals bassist Jim Rodford.

The original band, featuring Eric Burdon on vocals, formed in 1964 and had hits including House of the Rising Sun, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place.

Rowberry joined the band in 1965, replacing original keyboard player Alan Price. The group continued shifting members and eventually split up toward the end of the decade but the members got together sporadically and recently regrouped as Animals and Friends.

"We found Dave again three years ago and these last few years have been fun," Steel said.

"He has been having a great time but he wasn't in the best of health."

Steel said Animals and Friends were due to play in Poland this weekend and he would miss Rowberry.

"He loved playing with a band. He loved the social life of being on the road, eating, drinking, having a good gig and meeting new people," Steel said.

"It's great that he did it almost up to the last minute."

Music journalist Keith Altham said Rowberry "was always very bright, amiable and amusing. He was a great keyboard player."

"Dave's contribution to the band was that he gave it a slightly funkier, more blues feel than it had previously," Altham said.

"He will be very much missed by his fellow musicians and by his fans."

OMG!!!  :'(
It just hit me - by the time I reach the age of 50, all good music will be gone. Great musicians of the past are passing away on by one, and no good new music is being made. Will my children never see a good live concert?!?!?!?!?   :o  :'(

They are supposed to be coming to this area in August. I wonder what they are going to do now.

how old are you now?

there is good music being made now (don't laugh!)

like:

Lenny Kravitz, Doves, Marillion, Fish, Stone Temple Pilots, Bob Dylan (still making records, remember his recent cool song Not Dark Yet?), Macy Gray, Diana Krall, Tangerine Dream, the Rolling Stones are still making records too.

And let's not forget Britney Spears!  Ok, that last one was a joke.

Don't be an old fogey moaning about how there's no good music anymore.  It makes you sound so old.

Phil Spector should make some new records too.  Most new music is junk, but most old music was junk when it came out too.

Ciao!

it will be pretty hard for old Phil to make new records when he's in jail for murder. the only thing he will be making is licence plates.

I'm 18 in a week. I admit - according to my musical taste I should have been a teen in the 70's... SO WHAT?  8)
