Subject: Variety Shows
They don't seem to have variety shows like they did a few decades ago. I think they started phazing them out in the 70s. You do have your comedy shows like Saturday Night Live, In Living Color, and Mad TV (actually Laugh In could be part of this bunch) but it was a different breed (in my opinion) Usually it was a singer who had his/her own show. Here are some of the ones I remember.
The Carol Burnett Show (my personal favorite)
Tony Orlando and Dawn
Mac Davis (I did like this one, too)
Flip Wilson (this one was also good)
Andy Williams
Donny and Marie
Julie Andrews (I don't think this one lasted too long)
Sonny and Cher
That is all I can think of. Are there any others?

I don't know if he had a show per say but he did have specials. I remember he had (I think) Lily Tomlin as his fairy god mother and she said to him, "I'm here to make John a household word." He said to her, "It already is."
I can't believe that I forgot about the Smothers Brothers. They were banned for being too political.

Where oh where are you tonight. Why did you leave me here all alone. I searched the world over, and I thought I found true love. You met another and ffffffffffftt you were gone. The scits on Hee Haw were good but I hated the songs.

LOL POP I guess that was a bit before your time, Hee Haw was always made fun of in our school, so alot of people would sing that song! I hardly watched the show yet I know that song by heart! The one thing I can remember about the Hee Haw that I did watch was the small town salute that they used to do. Palm Harbor Fl population 197 <SALUTE>!
Oops! The tune to which Arcfire refers is in Cat's post bellow from Butterball. ;D -HS
LOL Nope HS its in BB's post right above mine. There was a post from PoP that stated she didnt understand why butterball was singing that song so I replied to her but that post is now gone ::) -Arc

Now, we're not ones to go 'round spreading rumors.
No, we're just not the gossipy kind.
No, you'd never hear one of us repeating rumors.
So you better be sure and listen close the first time.
(Ok, I confess, I watched Hee Haw once in a while. :-[)
