Subject: Trivia question

Written By: Eli_Sheol on 04/19/03 at 09:15 a.m.

In the BillBoard top hits for 1961 OlDsKoOl fAiRy had posted "Exodus" by Ferrante and Teischer at #10.
When was the last time a song performed by an orchestra got into the top ten?
Has a song performed by an orchestra ever made it to #1
I'm talking from 1960 on. I'm sure that before the 60's a lot of songs done by orchestras made it to number 1.
I don't know the answer to this question and I don't want to take the time to do the research.

# 1  Sept 1973  "Eye Level"  Simon Park Orchestra

Yeah I heard about that River Dance thing, never did hear the actual music though.
I've never even heard of Eye Level. I guess in 73 I was too busy listening to Ozzy and Black Sabbath(I still can't believe he did drugs!!)
Thanks Fuss.

Didn't the Tiajuana Brass Band have a top 10 hit-"Taste of Honey" comes to mind. Can't recall the year. There was also Micheal Murphy's "Beethovon's 5th" from Saturday Night Fever.

Hi Cat

Wasn't "A Fifth Of Beethoven" by Walter Murphy, rather than the "Wildfire" guy ?

Didn't a version of Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes do pretty well in the U.K. charts?  It was by the Royal Dragoon guards or something similar.  Not an orchestra I know but no singing involved.

I also think there was a version of the Floral Dance by the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.  But maybe they only did the music for the Terry Wogan version.

Of course, we can't forget those great Medley songs from the early 1980's.

Hooked On Classics comes immediately to mind.

??? OK, thinking heads on - Doris Day sang It's Magic and the Army and the RAF had parody versions - the Army's was It's Tragic.  It's the RAF version I'm trying to get the words of ?  Any old fly boys out there who can remember ?

I found that the Song or Album by Lawrence Welk Orchestra
titled "Calcutta" held the #1 chart position for 11 weeks in 1961.
Is that what you were looking for?
