It may have been a good year for you. However, it was the year Kennedy was assassinated. Some people seem to think that was a good thing.
It was also the year my dad divorced my mom.
It was the year we moved from San Antonio Texas to Draper Utah.
I often wonder what my life would have been like had my mom and dad stayed together and we had stayed in Texas.

I used to live in S.A. It was a very good year when I finally moved away from there. Never lived in Utah so I can't say whether it is better or worse than S.A. but I absolutely hated it in Texas.

I recognize five of these songs.  Two of them (the two surf instrumentals) are wonderful.  The other three (Blue Velvet, Walk Right In, and Hey Paula) make me gack.

Hi, Hairspray !  :) I recently was doing a search for a wav or midi of "Dominique" (with no success) and came across a lot of stuff about The Singing Nun ! It was a real person, too.

I remember hearing "Dominique" playing on the radio all the time during whatever year it was popular. My older cousin had the albumn, too.

Ah yes, the dear old Singing Nun!

Or Sister Luc-Gabrielle (or Jeannine Deckers, if you really want to stretch a point!)

Apparently, the "Dominique" single and album sold like hot cakes in the US in 1963. Some say due to the fact that the country was still numbed by the assassination of Kennedy and wanting some introspective music as "relief", I suppose it makes some kind of sense...

Anyway the Nun fitted the bill perfectly...

A few years later, the film appeared (which I've never seen!) starring Debbie Reynolds as our heroine...

The saga ends on a tragic note..Jeannine was excommunicated from the order over her opinions about contraception and the fact that she had embarked on a gay relationship. In a pact, both the lovers committed suicide in March 1985, Soeur Sourire (Sister Smile) was 52.

I'm curious as to where you got that listing.
If I'm not mistaken, I think that the Billboard Number One record for 1963 was Sugar Shack by Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs. But hey, I've been wrong before.  :)

The other interesting thing about that list is that it contains one of my all time favorite songs; from any decade...
Sally Go Round The Roses.
You'd be amazed as to how many people don't remember that one.
