Subject: Rolling Stones
I wonder whether the lyric in the Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want" have been misheard. The line I question is one which I've read interpreted as, "I was standing in line with Mr. Jimi". Given the context of the times and the context of the song, "I was standing in line with Mr. General" makes more sense. Am I off?

The lyrics to this track, according to LeosLyrics.com:-
I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man
No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you find
You get what you need
We went down to the demonstration
To get your fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
You get what you need--yeah, oh baby
I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

Well as Bobo said, lyrics sites give the spelling as Mr Jimmy, but I am more inclined to think that it is a reference to Jimi Hendrix......
Where is Zella, our resident 6th Rolling Stone ? She can tell us ! (maybe) !

I always thought it was "Mr. Jimmy" also, but every official Rolling Stones lyrics I've ever seen has said "Mr. Jitters." ???

I remember Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids doing that song. That was a trip.

I remember hearing a radio interview with "Mr. Jimmy." I don't remember the details, but the upshot of it was Mr. Jimmy took credit for inspiring the line "You can't always get what you want." It had something to do with Mick ordering one brand of pop, they were out, and Jimmy delivered the line that lives on... http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/cool/cool007.gif
