Subject: Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Does anyone here listen to this group? I had heard of them, but never started really listening to them until this past summer. It's terrific music...

Yup! I'm an avid fan of Mendes!! It's interesting to note that a lot of younger people are beginning to discover Brasil '66 all over again. It's also nice to see Sergio performing a lot of the old material in concert -- something he hasn't done in some time. I'm with you, though. His music is infectious, sexy and flawless. ;)

The problem I have with Sergio Mendes is that in several cases, "he" has released records where somebody else is singing an AWESOME vocal performance, yet the vocalist gets no billing other than in liner notes.
As opposed to Carlos Santana. If you listen to the tunes that he has been doing with hired vocalists, the vocalist gets equal billing with Carlos. :D

Ha !
Sounds like Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow". If I had been Maggie Reilly I would have been severely cheesed off ! :D

It was sung by Joe Pizzulo and Leza Miller. :D

It was his "group" but the vocalists rarely, if ever got any credit when the song was played on the air. I think that is crappy.
Now Santana is a class act. When he does songs with a guest vocalist (Carlos rarely sings lead), he gives full "billing" to the vocalist, like when Rob Thomas or Michelle Branch sang those tunes with his group.

I have 6 of their albums on vinyl......and I'm only 25! I love Sergio Mendes....that guy and his group are cool as hell. I have two of the Brazil '66 records and Brazil '77. I have some others but I can't remember right off. Just letting you know that they are awsome.

Brazil rocks. 8) I was down there a couple of times in 2002 and it is a nice country.
Major soft drink down there isn't Coke, though, Hairspray, so you might feel disoriented down there. The big drink in Brazil is Guarana Antarctica. I guzzled that stuff like it was water. (And good thing too since the water down there will give you the runs)
