You know, those sad and blue, you left me, I left you, now I'm sorry, you're sorry tunes!  One of my all time favorites is Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, by the Platters.

(Smoke Gets In Your Eyes Written by Jerome Kern (music) and Otto Harbach (lyrics) for the musical "Roberta" in 1933
Recording by The Platters was a # 1 hit in 1959 Remade in 1973 by Blue Haze, it hit # 27)

The Platters do have excellent songs, happy and sad ones.

I too choose The Platters and their song which also happens to be my absolute favorite by them: "The Great Pretender".

The Fleetwoods.  Particularly thinking "Mr. Blue".

But then there are so many great 1s, again, as I always say, you can't really pick even just 10.

This is more like an "I'm sorry for myself" tune, but I love it...

Bobbie Gentry - "I'll Never Fall in Love Again"

What do you get when you fall in love?
A guy with a pin to burst your bubble.
That's what you get for all your trouble.
I'll never fall in love again.
I'll never fall in love again.

What do you get when you kiss a guy?
You get enough germs to catch pneumonia.
After you do he'll never phone ya.
I'll never fall in love again.
I'll never fall in love again.

Don't tell me what is all about
'cause I've been there and I'm glad I'm out,
out of the chains, the chains that bind you.
That is why I'm here to remind you.

What do you get when you fall in love?
You only get lies and pain and sorrow.
So, for at least, until tomorrow
I'll never fall in love again.
I'll never fall in love again.

Don't tell me what is all about
'cause I've been there and I'm glad I'm out,
out of the chains, the chains that bind you.
That is why I'm here to remind you.

What do you get when you give your heart?
You get it all broken up and battered.
That's what you get, a heart that's shattered
I'll never fall in love again
I'll never fall in love again

Wasn't that Dionne Warwick? ???

Both Dionne Warwick and Bobby Gentry recorded it. I believe it was originally a Bacharach track. Also Deacon Blue, Elvis Presley, Isaac Hayes, and Emmylou Harris, among others.

You know, I Ain't A-Marching Anymore was one of the great anti-war songs.  I wonder if Ochs would have moved on from the folk scene?  Tom Paxton didn't.
I don't think Dylan has ever felt guilty about anything ever.

Say Steve and Zella, can you explain ?  Did they have a feud or something ?  Did Dylan write something nasty about Ochs ?

I just know they did not like each other. Dylan allegedly wrote "Positively Fourth Street" about Ochs.

I think when you're as self-centered and ambitious as Dylan was, you tend to crap on a lot of people.  I'm not an expert on it, but I don't think Dylan was directly responsible for Ochs' suicide.
