Subject: Bob Dylan

Written By: BeatGen on 10/19/02 at 00:54 a.m.

So what do we all think of Bob Dylan?  I haven't really seen him talked about on this board.  Here, I'm going to try and do something, just because I can.  http://www.bizarrechef.com/Images/Bob%20Dylan%20rev.jpg

Well I am personally a huge fan of Dylan, I think he's influence on music has been immeasurable, and his music is sometimes just too beautiful.

I think his voice is an asset to him, not a problem or a hurdle in his career.  For me, his songs just sound so much better when he is singing them, his voice definitely creates an edge for him.

To reiterate, what do you all think of him?  Love him or hate him?

Good career, some great records.

Have you listened to any of his mid-60s stuff?  Like http://www.expectingrain.com/dok/cd/albumpics/05BRINGI.GIF or http://www.expectingrain.com/dok/cd/albumpics/06HIGHWA.GIF?   They were great then, but they're practically unlistenable-to now.

Personally, my favorate is http://www.expectingrain.com/dok/cd/albumpics/18BLOOD_.GIF

I love his mid 60s stuff more than anything he has ever done!  Just curious as to why you find them unlistenable now though?

*Please note:  I like to post pictures

http://gs.cdnow.com/graphics/COVERART/local/L/01/90/00000190.jpg  Gotta agree with this one, its a great album - most probably my favourite of his.

As above

I think its safe to say that from say '63 to '66, Bob Dylan was untouchable.  That's not to say that his other stuff wasn't great, but IMO, this was Dylan at his most raw, and best.

I just think the mid-60s stuff sounds old. I think all music from that time, the psychedelic era if you will, sounds dated.   More so that the folk stuff or the mids-70s stuff.  Those albums sound like period shots, while the other era albums still sound vital.

Dylan's voice doesn't bug me as much as it does some people.  Hell, I can't sing in key either.  But I think a bunch of his songs were covered better than he did them.  Did you know that Blowin' in the Wind has been covered 375 times?  In my opinion, The Byrds covered Dylan as well as anyone.  If you're looking for a great album, get Roger Mcguinn's Live from Mars.

I like some of Dylan's stuff but I always felt that he was better when chewed and digested by other artists such as Ian Hunter and Elliott Murphy.... ;)

That isn't Bob Dylan.  That's Adam Sandler.

"It Ain't Me Babe" is probably my favorite from him.  Others are "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Shelter from the Storm," and "Tangled Up in Blue."

I wonder if anyone has a favorite Dylan song post-1974?  I doubt it.

This http://classicsdelrock.dreamers.com/imatges/dylan-planet.jpg is one of my favorite Dylan albums.
