Subject: Favorite Beatle Albums
What are YOUR favorite Beatles Albums....please, no greatest hits.....just keep it to studio and live ;)
1. Rubber Soul-1965
2. Abbey Road-1969
3. Magical Mystery Tour-1967
4. Sgt. Pepper-1967
5. Revolver-1966
I heard George Martin once say that they almost released Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour as a double LP.

Hi R&RF
I preferred the earlier stuff (not that there's anything wrong at the other end of the decade), so my votes go to :
1 With The Beatles
2 Beatles For Sale
3 Rubber Soul
4 Hard Day's Night
5 Please Please Me
FB ;)
Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
It changes with mood...
1. Sergeant Pepper
2. Rarities (if only for She Loves You/I Want To Hold Your Hand in German)
3. Rubber Soul
4. Revolver
5. Abbey Road
Revolver is the only Beatles album I don't have, and that is because it was nicked one party we had many years ago. I don't listen to them much any more, as I only have a couple on CD (Sergeant Pepper and Rubber Soul), all the rest are on vinyl and hidden away from the children's prying hands

I'm NOT going to get involved in this, and you know why. Don't you, RnR? I'm interested in the discussions, though, if any.

Don't worry, it's the thread I have problems with. It's simply impossible for me to choose Beatles specific Beatles albums that I like, purely because of one main thing people forget about The Beatles. In my opinion, the sum is greater than the individual parts. Every album would have good tracks, some more good than bad, and vice versa, but music is not about the notes one plays, the tunes one sings, it's about the spaces between the notes that one plays, and the way they are fused to create the entire package. These entire packages are so superior compared with the individual parts (of the group and the songs sung by them). Don't worry, there was nothing that I was meaning to offend anyone with, and I hope nobody saw it that way. Thinking of it now, there did seem to be some degree of un-necessary sounding hatred in my message, which I didn't mean to convey. My sincerest apologies.

Speaking of which, I have been unable to get my hands on a copy of Rarities for a while now (borrowed it from the library ages ago). I like all the rare tracks, the tracks that everyone passes by, and so on. I'm done for now

Hey Bobo
I didn't assume any hatred. I just, like everyone else I suspect, wondered if it was a private joke or something we were all going to find out about.....
Cos' I remember in previous threads you had been pro-Beatles, so it was a tad confusing.

Slightly OT, but, Bobo baby, where you been? I haven't seen you post in a while...I was beginning to worry. :)

You missed me? Aww... I'm loved!!!
I've been having some problems with my internet provider. They switched their hours from 16 per day till 12 without us knowing. We somehow managed to spend "thirteen and a half hours on the internet at one time", hereby "breaking the contract". However, when the e-mail came through, not only did we realise we'd only spent 11, but that they claimed we'd spent "more than 16 hours." I tell ya, we sent a rather rude message suggesting they check the management of their system. Of course, I would have logged in to the messageboard at school, until I realised it was the holidays.
I LOVE YOU GUYS! I CAN'T DO WITHOUT YOU!

I'm back for now, if this ever happens again, I'll give you guys a warning beforehand. Love ya'll.
Back to the thread, what do people think about the CD "1"? Of course, it's a greatest hits CD, featuring their 27 number 1 hits from Britain and America, but, just like Heartaches and Harmonies, by the Everly Brothers (a former Album Of The Day) tries to be very comprehensive of their good songs, but misses out many, many of my favourites (those that, of course, didn't get to the top of the charts).

Whoops !
You're gonna get in trouble with R&RF for mentioning Beatles '1'.

Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
I don't mean as a favourite album, I mean as a general compilation. Does it work? I mean, it's a greatest hits album, granted, every true Beatles fan will buy it (I bought thirty, if you really want to know, okay, then selling them off to thirty Beatles fans at school free of charge.) I hate having to make profit.
A lot of Greatest Hits albums (Boyzone's By Request comes to mind) simply work because of the popularity of the material. But when it comes to nine of the top 20 albums being Greatest Hits packages, (one of which, granted, was the impressively comprehensive "Definitive Everly Brothers" collection), isn't this taking it a bit far? We all know what will appear on Westlife's anyway. Greatest Hits? My a**e...

Bobo
For me there was no point, as I already had all the others, and I do mean all
FB ;D
Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
Of course, comes back to my argument about The Everly Brothers. Thankfully, the new Definitive Collection offers more than the standard 24 tracks from the purple album (they're all distinguishable by colour). Unfortunately, all others except for H+H and Some Hearts have the same basic idea, F+B ballads (I point you to "Dream"). It seems with so many tracks available (and they do have 470+) they could easily fill up a few CD's with unknown (but still beautifully worked-on) material.
Of course, Beatles albums do feature a lot of the same songs, but does it really matter? I could listen to We Can Work It Out, Yesterday, and many more besides, all day without getting tired. After all that, it probably turns out I'm in the minority.

The Beatles were one of the few groups to successfully
change with the times in the 60's, and would no doubt have
been successful in the 70's as a band had personalities not
gotten in the way. My musical tastes go with their later work.
1) The White Album
2) Abbey Road
3) Let It Be
Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
Revolver
Abbey Road
Let It Be
Sgt. Peppers
Rubber Soul
White Album
Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
Abbey Road was my first Beatle's album so I am a bit sentemental about that album. (But someone stole it on me >:( ) I also love Sgt. Pepper and The White Album. Next comes Let it Be and The Magical Mystery Tour. I now have all of their albums (from Meet the Beatles to Let it Be) on CD ;D
One of these days, we are going to have a Beatles day and play them all from beginning to end.

Meet the Beatlees
Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
Almost any of 'em (late stuff gets a bit ho-hum, but I digress...), but a special mention to the first four LP's (depending where you live, of course!) - hardly a duff track between 'em...
'Please Please Me' was the first one I listened to outright (see long rambling answer elsewhere...!), and I still credit it to this day for opening my eyes and ears to 60's music...
Such was their popularity (hard to imagine now...) that the first two LP's alone were the UK's only #1 albums for most of 1963-64! Amazing!
Subject: Re: Favorite Beatle Albums
#1 Sgt Peppers ( I even have the movie) I only listen to it!!
it was my first beatles album.
#2 Abbey Road
Another one that I dont remember the title, it was a gift from my husband, with two red vinyl records, mint condition. It is put away.

That's more than likely to be the 'Beatles 1962-66' LP annie, released 1973 in order to stop a bootleg Greatest Hits which was doing the rounds at the time!
Red vinyl (and also blue for the 1967-70 version) started to be pressed in the late '70's...there's also a version of the 'White Album' released on, er...white vinyl...!
Not as commonplace as they once were, so keep it 'put away'...they all rake in approx US$40-50 in nice condition...
