What are everyones favourite films set before the last 3 decades, but made after the 70's? These can be any, set after 1900 ish to 1970. Some which immediatly spring to mind are:
Titanic (I was so besotted with Leonardo when this first came out!!)
Pleasantville (Fantastic concept)
Dirty Dancing (Just love it :) )
Grease ( Also, just love it!)

Just the other day I saw a movie that I'd not seen for quite some time. It was made in 1978, starred Nancy Allen and was called "I Want To Hold Your Hand." It was a ficticous look at the arrival of the Beatles in 1964....I thought it was pretty funny....anyone else remember it?

Is that the one that also had Wendy Sperber (I think) in it? She was also in Bosom Buddies with Tom Hanks.

Well this one came out IN the 70s, but is set before: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF! And then THE CHOSEN which came out in the 80s!

stand by me
shawshank redemption
back to the future (most of it's 1955)
the cradle will rock
saving private ryan (i love tom hanks)
the sixties (miniseries)

I would have to mention "The Doors" - that one was not totally before the 70s. But I will make one comment - that movie made me glad the 60s were over with.

I agree with "The Craddle Will Rock" also theres a Disney movie called "Time Traveler" in witch a kid goes back in time, and Inspires his grandfather to Use a different strategy to cross the atlantic (His grandfather had tried before and died). I also like L.A. Confidential, the Legend of Beager Vance, and Rocket Man (Not to be confused with "the rocketeer").

Great choices Criz! My faves are also "Grease", "Pleasantville", "American Grafitti", "Ragtime", "A League of Their Own", "Once Upon A Time In America", "La Bamba", "The Buddy Holly Story" "The Godfather" and Im sure theres more that Im missing...

;)chinese connection(1972)is supposed to be taken place in the early 1900's according to the beginning narrarator and the back of the video cover also.but once you watch it for yourself it definetely looks like it's taken place in the early 50's.the reason is the cars in the background are early 50's models,so they really screwed up in saying that it's taking place in the early 1900's.
some other favorites of this category of discussions would be.
1.1941(1979)self explanatory.
2.american graffitti(1973)supposed to be 1963 in the movie.
3.grease(1978)supposed to be the early 60's)
4.the wanderers(1979)supposed to be 1962
5.stand by me(1987)supposed to be the late 50's
6.the sandlot(1993)supposed to be either late 50's or early 60's.seems quite hard at times to distinguish these two era's.
this is because the cars,the fashion and the music were so similiar between the time period of 1958-1963.
here's a few more you's might laugh at for me listing.
7.the spy who shagged me(1999)taken place in the late 60's
8.crouching tiger hidden dragon(1999)taken place in the 1800's,i think.maybe even the 1700's.hard to tell excactly.
9.timecop(1994)takes place in the 1920's.most of the flick,anyhow.
10.a bronx tale(1992)takes place in the early 60's as far as i remember.
11.raging bull(1980)takes place from the 40's to the 60's.

what comes to mind is "The Sound of Music"...one of my all time favorite Musicals, my next favorite would be "Oliver Twist"
