The Juno Awards are a ceremony that celebrates the best in Canadian Music.  They were first established in 1970 by RPM Magazine as the RPM Gold Leaf Awards, and the following year were renamed Juno (after Pierre Juneau, the first head of the Canadian Radio-Television Commission).  This year they celebrate their 40th year.

At the awards, they did a segment showcasing some of the Canadian artists who went on to success outside of Canada, but they didn't even scratch the surface on all that there were, so here are 6 at random that I may have mentioned once or twice before ...


Pagliaro - Lovin' You Ain't Easy (1971)
A #15 hit in Canada in 1971, and by 1972, had found success in the UK where it reached #31

Gary and Dave - Could You Ever Love Me Again (1973)
This peaked at #7 in Australia in 1974, spending 41 weeks in the Australian chart.  Having already been a #1 hit in Canada, it also made #92 in the States.

Troiano - We All Need Love (1979)
Peaked at #39 on the US Disco Action (now known as the Hot Dance Music / Club Play) chart, and ranked #24 on Italy's end of the year dance chart of 1979.  Meanwhile, back in Canada, it was a mainstream hit where it peaked at #34

Frank Mills - Peter Piper (1979)
Best known for the International smash 'Music Box Dancer', his other releases didn't go unnoticed.  'Peter Piper' peaked at #48 in the US, and also made #11 in Canada, both in January of 1980

Prism - Don't Let Him Know (1981)
This was not the first US hit for Prism, but it was their only Top 40 hit there where it peaked at #39 on the Billboard Chart in 1982.  Penned by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, it is well known as being the first Top 40 appearance for Bryan Adams.  The song also peaked at #49 in Canada in 1981

One to One - Angel in My Pocket (1985)
The 2nd hit in Canada for the duo of One to One, it peaked at #26 in 1986.  That same year, it entered the US Hot 100, and though it only peaked at #92 on the US Hot 100, it was a bigger hit in the US dance clubs

At this year's Juno Awards, the winner for best Electronic recording went to ...


deadmau5 - SOFI Needs A Ladder (2010)
This song was a smash club hit, and even found success in the mainstream:  It peaked at UK #68 and at #73 in Canada

Ercola featuring Daniella - Every Word (2008)
Ercola is from Romania, and Daniella is from Toronto.  This song went to #1 on the US Dance Airplay chart, and also made noise at #47 in the UK.  It also hit #33 in Bulgaria and #39 in Belgium.  Oddly enough, this song did not chart in the Canadian mainstream

Martin Solveig featuring Dragonette - Hello (2010)
Martin Solveig is French, Dragonette is Canadian.  With this collaboration, it stormed the dance floors all over the world reaching #1 on the US Dance chart, #13 in the UK chart, #1 in the Dutch Top 40 and #8 in Canada

James Doman - Everything's Gonna Be Alright (2008)
This peaked at #15 in the Dutch Top 40 and #50 in the UK Chart.  At the 2009 Juno Awards, it was up for best dance recording, but it lost out to 'Random Album Title' by deadmau5.
