Subject: Photography over the years

I have a real interest in amateur photography and professional photography. One of my Facebook friends posted this story about an amateur photographer in Chicago and I thought I'd share it here. If you have any websites or anything really having to do with the subject of photography, I'm interested in looking at it.

Man... I never find treasures when I go to garage sales! >:(
Too bad that woman never submitted any of her photos before.... I guess tho she was doing what made her happy and that was enough for her but imagine how rich she could've been.

I've only seen a few of them so far, and I LOVE them. Fantastic!, I'm so happy that this was found. I'm sure that eventually she will be held in very high regard.

The whole subject of street photography has gotten me to wondering... in today's society with everyone so privacy concious and security aware, would random photos of children be encouraged now-a-days? I would love to just wander around taking random photos, but I also don't want to be thought of as a threat in any way. What do you think?
Also, if you were browsing a yard sale or auction and someone's photographs came up for bid, would you buy them? I've bought several photos and once a whole photo album, not knowing anyone in it, intending to scan them for antique photo sites and school photo collections. It is one of my projects this winter, after I finish cleaning the house.

be careful if you do take pics of kids... I don't recall if I've posted this here before but I was at a paley event with the cast of Criminal minds and Matthew Gray Gubler tells this great story about when he was in NYC taking pics of kids. the beginning of the story is a bit muddled basically he had surgery and was really skinny, (skinnier than he is now) and he had a full beard and was walking thru an NYC street and started taking pics of kids playing in a hydrant....

(fyi- the video's not mine I was on the other side of the theater...

I made a movie about the organization that I used to volunteer for. Carlos was my cameraman. We filmed the programs that the organization did-like the food shelf, the clothing drive, etc. etc. One of the programs was a summer breakfast/lunch program for kids. Not only did they have free meals, they also had arts & crafts, & other stuff for kids to do. We sent out a letter to all the parents that we would be filming and if they had a problem, to let us know and we will make sure that their kid wouldn't be in the film. We didn't receive one objection-until AFTER we filmed. This one woman (who's kids weren't even signed up for the program but came anyway) had an issue with it. She was paranoid that someone would see that film and target her kids (they would be just one of many and there were no names mentioned). We had to erase much of our raw footage because her kids were in it. >:( >:( The second time we showed up to film, her kids were there but we (and they) made sure that they were out of the camera's eye.

Just wanted to revive this thread because I stumbled across a video talking about the photography collection of the New York Public Library. Apparently the library turns 100 years old tomorrow. It is my goal to get there one day.
Here is the video about their photography collection:

Every year at palefest I meet new and fascinating people. This year I had the honor of adding two new members to the group I dub Paley Pals.
They are a mother and daughter from NC. The kid is something like 15 and she's a photographer. Her mom kept talking about it and I thoughtoh that's sweet. I like taking pics too. Well we, the mom, daughter and myself have been communicating a lot via facebbok. Today I finally took the time to look at the kids work. the kid truly has an azaing eye.
I saw a pic she took of a snail - and let me say snails are only slighty more tolerable than frogs to me. But her pic was beautiful.
So I've decided to post the link to her website here. Hope you all lke it too

For those of you on FB she has an Imagery by Avery FB page as well.
