Subject: Worst decade for music?
Written By: JamieMcBain on 07/15/09 at 10:03 pm
I would say, the 70's, especially with disco, really chessy, sappy music (yes, Dan Fogelberg, I am calling you out!), and arrrrgh..... Afternoon Delight, worst song.... ever!
The 90's had the Macrena, Rico Sauve, and one of the worst bands ever, LFO.
What does everyone else here, think?

The worst decade for music is the 00s. I do like many songs of today, but nothing that ever reaches the mainstream in Canada (or America). In the old days, you could find great songs very easily. Nowadays, you have to weed through loads of crap to find maybe 1 or 2 good songs, and even those aren't all that good

Having been around for the end of the 60's, all of the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's... I would say the 60's and 70's were the best and most diverse decades for music (despite disco). I see the 80's in a more favourable light now than I did back then. This is probably because while music production and equipment improved ... the quality and creativity has declined. Not certain where it goes from here..... :-\\
BTW....Dan Fogelberg was an excellent artist! ;)

Summer 1999 was when music started sucking for me. The 90's was great! And since 1999, music hasn't been the same.
So yeah, the 00's is the worse for me. But everyone has a different opinion.

Agree with you gibbo,
60's and 70's were BY FAR the best decades for Music. Back then people could actually sing. Most of them. Songs had melodies.
Afternoon delight is an excellent song and is better than EVERY SINGLE SONG that came out in the 2000s
Dan Fogelberg was excellent as well.
The worst decade is anything in the last 10 years, most of it is horrible, completely horrible. Music died in the early 90s.
Again. everyone has a different opinion.

For one or two exceptions (James Morrison, Jason Mraz, The Feeling) the 00s has been dire.

Hey, don't rank on Manilow! When you've loved and lost the way Barry has, maybe you'll understand a few things!

In my opinion, the '00s has been the worst decade for music. There are songs that I listen to from the '00s (most of them from 2000-2003), but the majority of music this decade has been complete dog s***! Based on my music taste, the 70's, 80's and 90's were significantly better.

When I found out they sold 400 million worldwide I was shocked! They're huge for any band or artist. They've sold more than Madonna or Mariah.
I bet a lot of people are secret Abba fans in this world. ;D

Hence the worldwide popularity of the musical and movie Mamma Mia.

Please the Macarena and Rico Sauve those artists were one hit wonders that made those 2 songs. LFO came out in 1999 I mean counting them as actual 90's music is not accurate. Would you count Milli Vanilli as actual 80's music since they were big in 1989?
I don;t think you have a good case for what 90's music is.
I agree with you on the 70's music I can;t get into that decade with a few exceptions.
I would say the worst time for his music not neccesarily decade was anything made for the most part in the following years or periods: 1977-1982, 1999-2000, 1990, mid 2007+, late 2005/early 2006.

That's how I classify it. I'm sure everyone agrees there are bad songs in this decade, but there are some years that are good, and some years of the 90's with horrible music.
I'm not crazy about 70's music myself, weird when I was growing up in the time of serious 70's nostalgia..
Years with music I don't like too much are 1980 - 1983, 1990, 1994, late 2003 & 2004, 2007 & 2008. I sort of have mixed feelings on 2006.

Hard to say... but probably these days, the 00's. More and more it's about the image and not the music. Can someone who isn't attractive even get a record deal today? That being said... t-minus 5 hours, 8 minutes until I attend Lyle Lovett in concert. hehe

I hate to say it...but the 00s by far. (I'll stick to my vinyl records and tapes from the 60s 70s and 80s thank you very much.) I hate being a teenager in this decade. I'll be so glad when it's 2010. I would rather listen to old k-tel compliations than most junk coming out nowadays.

40s: it's refreshing to hear once in awhile and I feel like I've gone into a time capsule :)
50s: first years of rock-and-roll. Not necessarily my favorite time for music but some really catchy or witty tunes (ie. Ge-ge-ge-ge-get a job!)
60s: if it wasn't for the present, 60-63 would probably my least favorite time period for music. With British Invasion in '64, the music got better and by 68/69 it rocked making the late 60s a close second for music.
70s: I like the rock in this decade and I even like some of the funk/disco.
80s: yes I find a lot of it cheesy but I can't help liking the sounds of happy upbeat, and fun music.
90s: this would be my favorite decade in music. Okay I was born in '76 so maybe I'm being a little biased but the music was still original and there was talent involved. It was not overexposed with $ex and the videos were not filled with practically nude models. Please do not put the 90s music in the same category/period with today's!
00s: this is the worst time for music, especially from 2004 and beyond! Same thing goes with TV.

40's- I like Big band, but other than that I don't much like it.
50's- I hate the first half where everything was bubblegum, but I love the second half with Elvis, Jerry Lewis, Johnny Cash, others, etc.
60's- I like ALL of the decade's music!
70's-It's okay, but some of it is kinda boring for me.
80's- THE BEST!
90's- I like 90% of the music, except the year 1999!
00's- THE WORSE!
