Subject: Musical Gimmicks
Written By: whistledog on 05/25/09 at 9:23 pm
Like KISS with the Facepaint, or rap artist Nelly with the Bandage on his face. Whether they be odd, cool, funny, etc, what are some music gimmicks over the years ...
COOL!
♦ John Fogerty has a guitar that is shaped like a baseball bat, that he most often uses when he performs songs from his 1985 'Centerfield' album.

BIZARRE!
♦ Canadian DJ Joel Zimmerman performs under the alias Deadmau5 (pronounced "Dead Mouse") and often wears a big red Mouse shaped head (which he also features on his album and single covers) when he performs. His CD 'Random Album Title' and single 'I Remember (featuring Kaskade)' are both currently in the UK Top 40 ...

CREEPY!
♦ Jeff Plewman is a multi instrumentalist and singer from Canada who records under the name "Nash the Slash". His trademark is surgical bandages wrapped around his face, which he has done since 1979. Known in the UK for his production work with Gary Numan, he is best known in Canada as a member of the progressive rock band FM, whose biggest hit was Just Like You in 1985. For those of you in Canada, FM were great, weren't they? I am still a fan!

AWESOME!
♦ The Pet Shop Boys 1993 CD 'Very', which is also known as the Lego Case. The case itself has since been deleted, so if you own a copy of the original, and you accidentally break it, your only hope is a used copy.

Alice Cooper, King Diamond and Twisted Sister all wore makeup.
Ted Nugent and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull would swing out on stage from a rope, like Tarzan. Nugent also
wore a raccoon tail on the back of his pants.
Pink Floyd has the giant inflatable pig.
Keith Emerson shove daggers in his Hammond organ then pull the Hammond on top of himself and plays
it upside down. ( I don't know, something about this sentence sounds dirty. ;D)
Yes played concerts in the round.

Ted Nugent also takes out his bow and shoots a flaming arrow into a electric guitar
Tom Petty makes a production of taking out his Mad Hatter top hat for the song "Don't Come Around Here No More"
AC/DC have a huge bell that lowers just above stage for the song "Hell's Bells"
...this is a cool thread topic Jason :)

There was a band (somewhere in the 60's or 70's) that used to perform in suits of tin foil. I think it was a Dutch band, but I forgot the name. :-[
