Subject: Classic SELDOM heard songs you wanna recommend
Written By: Green Lantern on 11/05/08 at 7:51 am
This thread is started coz of a song .... that I thoroughly wanna recommend you guys check out .... one I have NOT heard it.... in close to 40 years ? ??? :o
Had pretty much given up on ever hearing this one again ... since I've never been able to find it on Lim .. uhm .... some popular downloading mp3 site. Ultimately, had an inspired brainwave ... to check for it on youtube .. which ... I was surprised to find it on .... only yesterday. Seems it's been there awhile ... if only I'd thought of THAT route, sooner ! :-NOT think 'Gloria Gaynor' .... since the title is the ONLY thing this gospel/ choir type song .. has in common. This same titled ... but DIFFERENT .... wonderful song ... was a hit for a group from Liverpool called 'Arrival' .... in 1970 .... 9 years before the Gloria Gaynor song.
This song, reached no. 16 ... and was on the UK chart, for nearly 3 months ! I think it is well worth listening to.
It is possible, you may have heard of 'Arrival' .... for their other big hit 'Friends' ... which made UK # 8 ... the same year. However, I definitely prefer THIS one ! 8)

This is one of my all time favorite, listen to 50 times at a sitting songs that is rarely played
Cast Your Fate to the Wind by Sounds Incorporated. This is the instrumental, someone did it with lyrics that was pretty lousy, buat this version is fantastic.

I'm listening to it right now ... (already had in my mp3 collection) .... following your above tip. However ... and your link seems to confirm ... they're 'Sounds ORCHESTRAL'. ?
Good tune.
Hmm, I do hope you'll check out my above one though .... (and anyone else to this thread).

I like that Arrival song. It kinda reminds me of the classic song 'One Tin Soldier'
I like the piano work in that Sounds Orchestral song 8)
--------------------
In 1976, a short-lived Canadian group called AIRLIFT reached #40 in Canada with a wonderful cover of that ROLLING STONES classic 'Tell Me (You're Coming Back to Me)'. Over the years, I hear alot of great songs on classic rock radio, but I never hear this one. Largely forgotten, but shouldn't be. Seldom heard by many, but on my mp3 player, it's in high rotation 8)

Hey, that's a pretty decent tune! :)
As for 'One tin soldier' ... not heard. Wiki informs a Canadian group 'Original Caste' first did it (1969) . I assume THAT'S the version you have in mind ?

Sounds Orchestral is right, for some reason I always get that wrong.

It is and far superior to the 70s cover by Coven. The Coven version is played alot, but the Original Caste version (which was a US Top 40 hit) is seldom heard

I was recently in the UK ... and enjoyed the series 'Last Choir Standing. Was hoping a band called 'Revelation' would win .... they were really good. Anyhow, I reckon this Arrival song would be tailor made for one of those top choirs to sing .
Yeah, it's strange how this band just seemed to fizzle out so quickly. They certainly had talent.

The thing with shows like this, is that everyone's repertoire must consist of well-known songs...
Good as they are, Arrival's songs would have most people scratching their heads...shame!

"Check Your Coat" by Oneal McKnight and Greg Nice

This one is just late 2007/early this year, but I'm disappointed it never really caught on in the mainstream. That's like a really good dance styled hip hop song. It sounds alot like classic era MJ with a modern '00s club touch for hipness.

Catchy song for sure, but what's the best about it is that Back to the Future spoof video with Christopher Lloyd. That was cool!

"Roscoe" by Midlake - not a classic yet, but it is great and never played on the radio. The band is from Austin. One of my favorite songs from the past couple years.

Some good ones there :)
I know the SO one and being a major Mike and the Mechanics fan, I definately know the Sad Café one
My favourite Sad Café song is 'Run Home Girl' which appears on the album 'Misplaced Ideals' which (in it's original release) has one of the scariest album covers I ever saw
