The Simple Machines:
The inclined plane
The wheel and axle (already mentioned)
The lever
The pulley
The wedge
The screw

TIVO (or any DVR)
The Internet
the thumb drive (jump drive whatever)
Video iPod
and my new Verizon phone that gets some tv channels 8)

The stuff we have taken for granted over the last 50 years or so, the simple things that just seem so obvious. Things like the wheel (as mentioned earlier), the engine, electricity, artificial lighting, the telephone, radio, television, toilet paper, boats, aeroplanes, toothbrush, ballpoint pen...
