Subject: 'Homely' Rock Stars...
Written By: CeramicsFanatic on 11/07/07 at 2:56 pm
I was just watching a Rush video and was struck by how 'unattractive' their lead singer, Geddy Lee, is...and yet he made it into the entertainment business...
Iggy Pop is another who comes to mind...
Any rock stars who you think are 'homely'?

Iggy Pop needs to eat something. ;D
Let's see, there is Bob Dylan, Meatloaf, Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Mick Mars (Motley Crue), and Axel Rose just to name a few.

I don't really think Meat Loaf is that homely...but I agree with the others! :D

Heh!
I could try and use the British definition of the word 'homely', but I won't...
(For the confused, we define it as 'pleasant'!)
Shane McGowan (ex of The Pogues) got hit by the ugly stick a few times more than necessary...
The walking corpse that is Keef Richards must have a mention (only by default, as he was quite a good-looking lad when younger...)

Shane McGowan has the best smile in the pop music industry

Really? ???
I just looked it up in the Oxford American Dictionary And Thesaurus, and they define it as meaning 'unattractive or ugly'...

I'm not sure I've ever seen a picture of him...

Must be an American version! ;)
Yes, it certainly does mean something different here...although not widely used...
I'm not sure I've ever seen a picture of him...
Make sure you've had your breakfast before you do... :P
Just 'google' his name and you'll see a 'charming' picture of him! :D

Steve Perry from Journey and Eddie Money look pretty dorky, but I like some of their songs, so it's all good. ;D

I've found Mick Jagger, David Bowie or Steven Tyler particularly attractive... in fact if they weren't rock stars you'd probably be creeped out if any of them approached you in a bar...

Iggy Pop needs to eat something. ;D
He does. Iggy eats industrial solvents and rust rivets.
Iggy is one of my Pop heroes. He wrote one of my adopted personal themes:
FIVE FOOT ONE
Yeah, I like it
Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!
I'm only five foot one
I got a pain in my neck
I'm looking up in the city
What the hell what the heck
I stare at the concrete
The girders eye high
The steel's above me
There's love in my eyes
And I'm doing the things
A five foot one man can do
I'm only five foot one
I got a pain in my heart
All the night I'm working
In the amusement park
With a bottle of aspirin
A sack full of jokes
I wish I could go home
With all the big folks
And I wish life could be
Swedish magazines
I wish life could be
Swedish magazines
I wish life could be
Anything
Ugh! Aie! Aie! Aie!
Ugh!
I'm only five foot one
Unless the time has come
I won't grow anymore
Anymore, anymore, anymore
'Till I'm losing my head
I'm checkin' it twice
I'm gonna find out who's naughty and nice
And I'm doing the things a five foot one man can do
I wish life could be Swedish magazines (x3)
I wish life could be
Yeah, I wish life could be
Oooooooooohhh
I wish life could be
I wish life could be Swedish magazines
I wish life could be Swedish magazines
I wish life could be
I won't grow anymore (x3)
Anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore, anymore
I'm only five foot one (x3)
I'm five foot one
(I'm not 5' 1" I'm 5' 5" but the average height has soared so much since he wrote the song it evens out!)
8)

Geddy Lee is very unattractive yes, and along with that voice, it's any wonder he isn't up in Notre Dame ringing that bell ;D
And speaking of unattractive Canadian singers from the 80s, remember Eddie Schwartz? In 1981, he was a one hit wonder in the US Top 40 with 'All Our Tomorrows' (he had further hits in Canada), but he was better known as a songwriter penning such hits as Pat Benatar's Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Paul Carrack's Don't Shed A Tear. He wasn't the best looking guy, which probably explains why he had a bigger career behind the scenes

Plain, not beautiful (Amer.)

Ritchie Sambora -> Heather Locklear
Eddie Van Halen -> Val Bertinelli (eddie was okay looking but the drugs reallly kicked his ass)
funny how they keep losing these women tho Guess the women wise up or the men are unable to sustain whatever it was that attracted the women in the first place.

I think the status and the money also has something to do with it. I am sure that these woman would not give them the time of day if they were not already famous.

Ocasek's not ugly, he's just geeky in a cool way. ;) I heard that he was musically influenced by Buddy Holly, and his look kinda fits it too. He even looks like a new waver!

Not ugly, you've got to be kidding me?
http://www.thewvsr.com/ocasek.jpg
OK, maybe not ugly, just a skinny, pale image of walking death. This mans face would scare fleas off a dog.
Buddy Holly wasn't geeky, if you're referring to the glasses, that style wasn't geeky, that was the only style at the time.

No comparison.
BTW,The Cars were New Wave....
