I never much cared for 'Moonraker' either.  It makes me laugh more than anything.  It starts off as a spy film, and ends up as Star Wars.  And that part where Jaws bites into the cable had me rolling on the floor LOL

I honestly thought Timothy Dalton was the best bond.  Just something about him made him more suave than the other bonds.  I liked 'The Living Daylights', but I didn't really like 'License to Kill'

Best: Casino Royale with Daniel Craig, for it set the true character for James Bond.

Best Pre-Casino Royale: Goldfinger, for its charm as a spy movie.

Worst (like above): Moonraker, it was a complete waste of time and could had been better produced.

Just finished goldfinger. What a time capsule. a few minutes into the film, girl giving James a massage, felix lighter comes up to him. James "Get outta here...  man talk" then slaps her ass, and she smiles and walks away. Try that today and 007 gets charged with sexual assault.


Casino Royalle had the cinimatography and fx, but I missed Q, and the familier sountrack wasn't quite their, and the opening bullit, and bloody lenz was gone.. :(

I'm sure I'll see the Next one opening night.

Anyone have a favorite gadget? I was always a fan of the wrist watch laser.




Favourite gadget? Not a gadget in itself, but for me it is the Aston Martin in Goldfinger, with all the hidden bits to the motor. Another reason for my liking of Goldfinger.

I have probably seen about 5 or 6 of the Bond Films. I believe "Goldfinger" is the definitive Bond film, while I like the campiness of some of the '80s Bond films (Never Say Never Again, For Your Eyes Only). I didn't mind too much the first Bond film with Brosnan (Goldeneye). I actually liked the "Casino Royale" one quite a bit.

That has always puzzled me.  Was it because they were not Broccoli productions?

I still consider both a part of the 007 Collection.  Casino Royale was one of the few Bond Films that had other hit singles, apart from the title theme.  'The Living Daylights' had some songs by The Pretenders, one of which charted in the UK

everyone needs to stop cracking on moonraker. it's ridiculous, goofy, opportunistic, schmaltzy, exceedingly extravagantly implausible, and about the most fun two hours you can possibly spend. i love the fight in that clock tower where the music budget apparently runs out and all you can hear is homoerotic grunting and breaking glass for 10 minutes. and how when they want to give jaws a nerdy girlfriend, they just put unfashionable glasses and braids on a gorgeous supermodel. how about the amphibious gondola and how it was so stupid it made you wanna pitch your half-drunk can of bud lite at your t.v.? plus, it expertly tapped the zeitgeist -- this was when they were still testing the space shuttle but it hadn't actually made its maiden voyage yet (i think) and so everyone was space-shuttle obsessed. it's funny to see all the shows and movies from the late 70s that claimed that in the future there was basically gonna be a space shuttle in every driveway.

moonraker -- totally my favorite bond until the casino royale remake came out, which is actually just conventionally excellent. (see? i'm capable of liking actual good movies, too. i'd just rather not. :P)

i also really like live and let die.

my worst bonds -- i dunno, there are a bunch that i think are really by the numbers. believe it or not, i got bored as sin during "diamonds are forever." dr. no makes me wanna gnaw off my own fingers to alleviate the boredom. i like goldfinger, thunderball, some of the other classic early 60s ones. just about all the ones after roger moore left i got no time for, with timothy dalton and all them characters. i guess it's coming out that i think the franchise is a little over-rated. i mean, cool idea in some ways, but did they have to make 300-trillion of them? i dunno.

PLUS moonraker had all those kickass shuttles, PLUS the drax helicopters, which made for great cross-marketing dinky toys. i totally had a drax helicopter, loved the crap out of it, it was all bent up and smudged.

plus i saw moonraker dubbed in french in paris in 1985 in a theater by myself, back when i was a 15-year-old existentialist antihero.

yes! that's in venice when he's exploring the whole glass-blower connection. remember there were the glass vials they put the nerve gas in? and this was the secret room where they made the glass vials. bond gets the CE3k password but ends up screwing something up and killing a bunch of drax lackeys when he accidentally releases nerve gas in a safe area. oh well, serves em right.

i was a little later. i worked box office for some classic movies, like the untouchables and witches of eastwick.

My Bonds began and ended with Connery.  For some reason I think to watch any other would sully the experience

I was puzzled by that too. I looked on wikipedia "Never say Never again." and that was a whole story in an of itself.

Never Say Never Again was actually a remake of Thunderball, both starring Sean Connery as Bond, which is what makes it even more puzzling.  To me, all James Bond films belong in the James Bond collection, no matter who produced them.  It only makes sense :)
