I think this is better than Rumours. Totally consistent over it's 20 tracks.

People consider this to be just mediocre, or to be the "end" of "classic" Heart. I think it's one of their best albums, though.

Eurythmics fans and critics consider this album to be too commercial, and just a dissapointment next to thier previous album, Be Yourself Tonight. But I think it's their best album.

This is techincally a commercial dissapointment compared to Whitney's previous two albums, but I think it's the best I've heard from her yet. I think people place too much importance on how many #1 hit singles her albums have, or how many times they go platnium....

This is considered to be a "sophomore slump", but I think it's just as good as her debut, maybe even better. I am shocked it only made it to #2 on the charts.

This album is shockingly underrated. So often it is called Kate's worst album, but I couldn't disagree more. I love this album, and I think it's one of her very best. I think people just call it her worst to spite her record company that made her rush to release it.

This album recieved a luke warm reception from critics, and it got many terrible reviews from her fans, but I think it's a very good album. Certainly better than her last release, 20 Y.O.. But there are a couple really bad songs on here, I admit....And I also have to admit I'm shocked it was nominated for a grammy, given that it was so ignored upon it's release and the recepetion it got.

^ Yeah, there's alot of albums which depart from an artist's "typical sound" that fans sometimes just won't get into, although it can draw in new ones as well. That happened alot during the '80s, when '60s and '70s artists added synthesizers and made music videos on MTV. I've read things and heard about hardcore fans of their earlier sound that still resent the artists that fully reinvented themselves to go Eighties (i.e. Chicago, "We Built This City"-era Starship, Aerosmith, Genesis, Tina Turner, ZZ Top, Rod Stewart).

I haven't listened to much of Tusk (I usually prefer commercial pop stuff), although I give them credit for expanding. "Think About Me" was a good song, and probably the closest to their trademark sound.


As far as the OT - good question. I have alot, I'll have to think about this a bit.

My choice is the Beastie Boy's "Pauls Boutique".

I know, you're thinking, the Beastie Boy's?

Yes, well I never liked them (actually HATED them) before this album, and Licensed to Ill, was just so much frat boy noise. But Paul's Boutique was a unique and innovative album. Obviously this was not a rehash of "Ill" and the sounds and mixes were showing some very creative bits and influences from all over.

After listening to this, its easy to see the influence of some of the music of the '90's (trip-hop, rap, deep/rare funk) got a lot of its inspiration here, and I had to backtrack on my preconceived notions of the B Boy's, these guys had some real talent that wasn't really seen until this album.
Classic album that will never get its due.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth-Rick Wakeman.

I'm sure a lot of you are probably thinking, "What? Never heard of it." It is an outstanding album-if you get a chance to listen to it, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I could name many - but most aren't underrated so much as not that well known. The Floyd's debut should be better known - considering how big they became, but it's generally held in high regard.

And I totally agree on 'Lionheart'. Before I heard it I checked out the reviews.etc, and it seemed critics and the public were consistently bashing it, calling it her worst album and all that. I must say it was the first full Kate Bush album I listened to and I was impressed - the songs have character, have drama, melody - it goes to prove even Bush's 'worst' work is better than most of those bland AOR singer songwriters. I guess it's not so much Lionheart is a bad album, it's just her others were so great and set the benchmark so high that Lionheart appeared comparatively average in that light. But as an album alone it stands up very well.

'Diamond Sun' by Glass Tiger

Because it wasn't a big hit outside of Canada, not many people really know much about it, and because of this, many times you will see Glass Tiger lumped into the two hit wonder bin (even though they had 4 US Top 40 hits, one titled 'I'm Still Searching' which came from this album)
