Not really sure what decade to classify him in, as he's performed and written hits for many artists spanning 6 decades.  Anyone else like his work?

A few favourites that I like ...

♦ Magic Moments - Perry Como (1957)
♦ (There's) Always Something There to Remind Me - Sandie Shaw (1964)
♦ Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head - BJ Thomas (1969)
   - From the film 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'
♦ Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) - Christopher Cross (1981)
   - From the film 'Arthur'
♦ That's What Friends Are For - Rod Stewart (not released as a single) (1982)
   - From the film 'Night Shift'
♦ That's What Friends Are For (Instrumental) - Burt Bacharach (not released as a single) (1982)
   - From the film 'Night Shift'
♦ Any Day Now - Ronnie Milsap (1982)
♦ Always Something There to Remind Me - Naked Eyes (1983)
♦ That's What Friends Are For - Dionne and Friends (1985)
   - Charity single for Aids research
♦ On My Own - Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald (1986)
♦ Love is My Decision - Chris DeBurgh (1988)
   - From the film 'Arthur 2: On the Rocks'
♦ Don't Make Me Over - Sybil (1989)
♦ I'll Never Fall in Love Again - Deacon Blue (1990)
♦ Walk on By - Gabrielle (1997)
♦ Magic Moments - Erasure (It was released as a single) (1997)

his work with dionne warwick in the late 60s and the 70s and the album he made with elvis costello are stellar.
he is an exemplary arranger and writer..
so glad you brought him up.
If you have not heard some great, old, old school burt, seek it out.
great thread.

He did some great work with Dionne yes.  'I Say A Little Prayer' springs to mind as one of the greats 8)

That album he did with Costello was great yes!  It won a Grammy if I remember
I loved how Bacharach appeared as himself in the first two Austin Powers films.  I was a little disappointed to not see him in the third one :\'(

I know...I was happy to see he's a guy with a good sense of humor.

He's certainly one of the greats (even though one or two of his songs have been played to death and have become somewhat annoying!)

However, there's no denying the quality of...

'This Guy's In Love With You' - which Herb Alpert somehow got before the oblgatory Dionne Warwick (and all the better, say I)

'Long After Tonight Is All Over' - Jimmy Radcliffe
Who? Good question!
This little-known Burt composition was (and still is) a big favourite in British soul clubs...usually played right near the end of the night (strangely enough!)
Well worth seeking out, if you've not heard it...

Walk On By

I like Melissa Manchester's version of that song... :)

San Jose (Dionne Warwick)

Whenever I hear this song, I always think of my dad...

My family was living in San Francisco at the time 'Do You Know The Way To San Jose' hit the charts ('67 or '68...I forget the exact year)...and my dad had to commute by bus every morning to his job in San Jose...

He obviously knew 'the way to San Jose' all too well, and for that reason he couldn't stand the song!  ;D

I heard a radio programme on Burt Bacharach, I was surpised to discover how many hits he had actually written the music for. Did he ever have a song that flopped?

I would assume a few.  Probably ones he sang himself (many have said he can't really sing all that well) LOL

Just stick to composing and playing the piano.
