Subject: The Temptations

I didn't want to break up the poll and have one in the 60s section and one in the 70s section. So, I stuck it here. Once again, choose up to 4 that you love the most and if I missed one that you just go over the moon for, click "other" and then name it. :)
My choices are:
Ain't Too Proud To Beg
I'm Gonna Make You Love Me
I Can't Get Next To You
Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)

1966 - Get Ready
1968 - I'm Gonna Make You Love Me <w/ Diana Ross and the Supremes>

The Temptations - what a classic soul giant!
Tough choice, so I picked 4:
My Girl
Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
I Can't Get Next To You
Papa Was A Rolling Stone

Glad to see this one mentioned. They still had some life in 'em as late as 1984/85.

But they're all really good (except I can't listen to My Girl anymore thanks to overplay...)

Ball of Confusion (That's What the World is Today) 2 (5%)
Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)
I had both of these on 45 rpm and really need a Tempations greatest hits cd
Just My Imagination is one of the most soothing songs

I've been a Tempts fan for 20 years now and I think I own at least 30 albums by them. I have some favorites not on the list, but it will probably be too much going into that right now ;)
"Papa Was A Rolling Stone" needs no introduction really. The 10+ minute song was the absolute highlight of their 1972 "All Directions" album and still stands as the very definition of symphonic soul music for me personally.
"Treat Her Like A Lady" was a definitive 80s soul moment and wisely chosen as a single since it fully displayed the awesome vocals of then newcomer Ali Ollie Woodson (replacing Dennis Edwards). Despite making a huge amount of quality songs in the 80s, "Treat Her Like A Lady" was the last real hit they had.

Dennis Edwards had a solo hit in 1984 called 'Don't Look Any Further'. It sadly wasn't a big hit, but it's one heck of a cool tune! 8)

Oh yes, "Don't Look Any Further" is a real classic, and sounded way different from anything else at the time. During Edwards solo stin in the 80s, he released 2 albums on Motown: Don't Look Any Further(1984) and Coolin' Out (1985). I suppose it was the more than limited succes of the latter that made him rejoin The Temptations for their "Together Again" album in 1987. Oddly, he left again in 1989 ???
